“We think of photography as pictures. And it is. But I think of photography as ideas.” One of my favorite quotes from photographer Joel Meyerowitz. I had an idea. I live a few miles down the road and I’d driven past Buckeye more times than I can remember. Even so, I’d never thought to photograph its fanciful historic gate until one day, I did. It was a bright beautiful day and I asked myself the question I always ask myself “OK, now what are you going to do?” After a few minutes my intuition and my camera discovered Zen. When that happens, I step out of the way. These are my favorites from that visit. The earliest known burial at Buckeye was December 12, 1815. Thank you to everyone at Morton Township, Tazewell County, Illinois, for maintaining Buckeye so handsomely.
